Pre production techniques

·     What is pre production?

All the elements and planning that is carried out before production

·     What is the difference between research and planning?

Research is looking at examples and finding specific things out whereas planning is deciding what process you’re going to carry out

·     What is a documentary?

A factual video with the aim to inform. It is non fictional

·     What is a news programme?

A programme with the aim to inform. It is based on real life stories. Can include interviews

·     What is a soap opera?

A TV programme, which is based on social realism and often occurs numerous times a week. It is a continuous story line

·     What is a film?

An extended series of fictional events

·     What is a music video?

A short video, which is based on a song and is played behind the music

·     What is a deadline?

A final date in which the aim is to complete something

·     Why are deadlines so important to media production?

So they can plan ahead for the future

·     Why is the availability of equipment and personnel important?

To provide a better

·     What is meant by ‘timescales for clearances’?

Clearance of person of authority after a project has been completed

·     What elements of your production require finance?

Paying actors, equipment, renting things

·     What types of finance are available?

Self finance, employer financed, kickstarter

·     What are the advantages and disadvantages of different finance?

Self financed, you can get he money straight away

Employer financed, you have to give a percentage of profits back

Kickstarter- you get money for free and don’t have to give it back

·     What is the average size of a news/factual production team?

Around 50 people

·     What are the main production roles of a soap opera?

Production associate, script writer, actors, script supervisors, stunt co-ordinator, location manager, director

Locations

For this powerpoint, the aim was to understand the difference between a location and a setting. I then had to give examples of a location with a particular setting and give the possible risks of filming in those places. Then, I had to think of a suitable location and setting for a genre of a film or music video.
